Billionaire’s Midtown penthouse got the biggest price chop in NYC history, now $70M off

Everything goes on sale after Christmas, and that’s certainly true of hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen’s Beacon Court penthouse at 151 East 58th Street. The SAC Capital Advisors founder bought the 9,000-square-foot duplex for $24 million in 2005 and hired noted architect Charles Gwathmey to give it a once-over. The condo hit the market again in April of 2013 for a whopping $115M (around the time Cohen received a wrist-slap to the tune of $1.2 billion for insider trading). No takers at that price. Or the next one ($82M). Or the one after that ($79M)–you probably get where this is going. Where the five-bedroom aerie on the building's 51st and 52nd floors ended up today: Deeply discounted to $45 million after eight price cuts adding up to a $70 million drop, making it the heftiest haircut to happen in New York City history according to The Real Deal.

After four price cuts, Justin Timberlake sells Soho penthouse for $6.35M

Justin Timberlake is finally saying "bye, bye, bye" to his Soho penthouse, even though that meant taking a loss on it. He and wife Jessica Biel first bought the three-bedroom spread at Soho Mews for just over $6.5 million in 2010. But after they then purchased a $20 million penthouse at celeb-hotspot 443 Greenwich in March 2017, they listed their former Soho penthouse for $8 million. Since then, they've had to drop the price four times, most recently to $6.35 million, meaning the duo would take a loss on the sale. Now, The Real Deal reports that Timberlake and Biel have finally found a buyer at that price who is listed in city records anonymously as "Hudson Broadway LLC."

William Randolph Hearst’s one-time Central Park West penthouse returns for $18M

Not only will the new buyer be able to say they're living in William Randolph Hearst's one-time home, but Legre worked with esteemed contemporary architectural design firm SheltonMindel to update the residence while retaining its magnificent historic details such as stained glass windows, elaborately carved woodwork, and ornate ceiling moldings. Plus, there's an equally expansive private terrace overlooking the park.

Justin Timberlake will take a loss on former Soho penthouse, chopped to $6.35M

Justin Timberlake is really trying to say "bye, bye, bye" to his Soho penthouse. Meryl Streep lists serene Tribeca penthouse for $25M

If we had to guess what Meryl Streep's home looked like, our description would be pretty close to the serene interiors of her Tribeca penthouse, which she's just listed for $24.6 million. According to Curbed, the three-time Academy Award-winner and her husband, Donald Gummer, bought the four-bedroom apartment in 2006 for $10 million, and they've now decided to sell it after buying a mid-century-modern home in Pasadena last December. Though Streep has designed the interiors impeccably, with a laid-back coastal vibe and contemporary art collection, what really sets this residence apart is the 10-foot-wide landscaped terrace that wraps around three sides of the penthouse.

$4.4M Upper East Side penthouse tops the townhouse where Marc Chagall once lived

Like many grand Manhattan properties in the neighborhood, this duplex penthouse atop a five-story townhouse at 57 East 73rd Street has an interesting past: It was once home to painter Marc Chagall (though another former Chagall residence nearby at 4 East 74th Street has attracted a bit more buzz in recent years, especially since Michael Jackson lived there in the 1990s). The 73rd Street townhouse has been divided into five condos since the artist's time. Besides having painterly penthouse bragging rights, there's a terrace that looks out over the Upper East Side neighborhood, which in turn is one block from Central Park and the Carlyle Hotel. The 1,350-square-foot home is asking $4.35 million–after several price chops from its original ask of $4.95 million in June.

The picnic-perfect terrace at this $10M Tribeca penthouse feels like a slice of Paris

We can imagine errant children in this worth-every-bit-of-$9.995 million Tribeca duplex penthouse being sent, for punishment, to the room without a terrace. The listing for 41 Warren Street in Tribeca calls it "Parisian perfection" in reference to the authentic Parisian wrought-iron balconies that wrap the apartment's many terraces; a hat tip to the Scandinavian countries is in order for the wood-paneled sauna. And 3,000 square-feet of chic, subtly luxurious interiors would be worthy of envy under any flag.

It was home to FDR's law offices and, later, to German spies plotting to prevent American from joining WWI.
