New two-acre rooftop public park opens at Pier 57 in Chelsea

More than 10 years and over $400 million later, an 80,000-square-foot public park is now open on the rooftop of Pier 57 in Hudson River Park. Formerly a maritime port and bus depot, the pier has been transformed into a mixed-use development with office space for Google and a new food hall curated by the James Beard Foundation. The new two-acre green space, the largest of its kind in New York City, will be open to the public daily from 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.

A new luxury residential project is set to rise on one of Greenpoint's few remaining vacant waterfront parcels. First spotted last month by CityRealty, The Huron is a two-tower condo development featuring 171 units ranging from studios to four bedrooms. Developed by Quadrum Global, the two towers boast eight exposures that maximize waterfront views and 30,000 square feet of amenity space, including an indoor saltwater pool overlooking the Manhattan skyline.

Adding to the high-rise boom of Downtown Brooklyn is The Guild, a 23-story luxury rental building at 310 Livingston Street. A lottery is now open for 48 middle-income apartments at the mixed-use tower, which was designed by Fogarty Finger Architecture and boasts a dark brick facade and bronzed windows. Qualifying New Yorkers earning 80 and 130 percent of the area median income can apply for the apartments, which start at $1,542/month for a one-bedroom unit and go up to $3,219/month for a two-bedroom.

New York’s first-ever Lenape-curated exhibition to open at the Brooklyn Public Library in Greenpoint

The first-ever Lenape-curated exhibition in New York is coming to Brooklyn. Presented by the Brooklyn Public Library and The Lenape Center, Lenapehoking features a collection of masterworks by Lenape artists and educational programs that teach visitors the story of the Lenape community. The collection is curated by Joe Baker, the co-founder and executive director of the Lenape Center and enrolled member of the Delaware Tribe of Indians. The exhibition opens on Thursday, January 20 at the Greenpoint Library and Environmental Education Center and runs through April 30.

A one-acre working farm opened at the Javits Center rooftop this week, providing a genuine farm-to-table experience for visitors of the convention center. The farm will include over 50 crops and 40,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables, which will be used in meals served on-site. The 200,000-square-foot rooftop, which also includes an enclosed glass pavilion, outdoor terrace, and a solar farm, is part of a $1.5 billion expansion project that has added a total of 1.2 million square feet of event space at the Javits Center.

Two Blue Slip, one half of a pair of luxury towers developed by Brookfield Properties and Park Tower Group, is a 40-story building located on the waterfront at the northern end of the Brooklyn neighborhood. New Yorkers with combined household incomes between $81,258 and $192,400, or 130 percent of the area median income, can apply for the apartments, which start at $2,370/month studios, $2,542/month one-bedrooms, $3,063/month two-bedrooms, and $3,530/month three-bedrooms.
